A lifelong dream of Sara Clines was to be involved in international missions working with children. However, before that dream could become a reality, she and her husband Henry had their own mission of raising and nurturing five children of their own. It was only after Henry’s retirement in 2004 that this dream became a reality.
They believe it was God’s providence that led them to Honduras to serve as volunteer missionaries. While living in Honduras for a year in 2005, and working with the local Methodist missions staff, they observed a vicious cycle of poverty being repeated generation after generation, because of a lack of education. God moved them to create a ministry to tackle this issue head on as well as provide a strong spiritual component to encourage them in their faith.
Becas con Bendiciones has become a reality with hundreds of children each year being able to attend school and develop a stronger faith through a monthly “gathering” in each of the 17 communities served by this program. Administrative expenses, travel, salaries and other expenses of the ministry are paid from a foundation set up for that purpose. This allows all contributions to be used solely for the needs of the students.
Henry and Sara live in Honduras about one-third of the year. They spend the remainder of the year primarily in Texas raising funds, communicating with donors and spending time with their children, fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
